Rafiki on Safari

Mambo tena (Hello again)

As it seems my last post was in late September, it seems I have some explaining to do.  For the last six or seven weeks I have been pretty much out of contact with the modern world, or at least the world outside of my own bubble in Tanzania.  The past month and a half have been easily some of the most amazing days of my life.  Our last week in Dar (last week in September) was spent wrapping up our Ecology, Kiswahili, and Human Evolution classes before our week break.  During the week break (roughly the first week in October), I climbed to the rooftop of Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and saw an incredible sunrise over the curve of the earth.  The next week or so was spent safariing in Serengeti, Lake Manyara, and a little bit of Ngorongoro National Parks before we headed to our field portion of the program where we lived in tents for four weeks just outside of Tarangire National Park while we conducted research in and around the park.  The next week was spent in Karatu, Arusha, Ngorongoro National Park, Oldupai (it’s not supposed to be ‘Olduvai’, although that’s what people know it as) Gorge, Laetoli, and Lake Eyasi before heading back to Dar es Salaam.  We now are into our last three weeks of the program where we will have five exams, three papers, and our research paper and project to present before we head back to the States on December 11th.  SO now that you’re up to speed, let me begin where I left off in September.  My updates will be done by the week for clarity.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ‘diarrhea of my fingers’ as my cousins like to call my long-winded updates.
